ELMIAWOOD: Kesla introduces a brand new 17 tonnemetre straight boom crane

01.06.2017 Nouvelles

The Finnish company Kesla introduces a new 17 tonnemetre straight-boom crane. The KESLA 2117 crane is part of the crane series 21, the first models of which were introduced a few years back. The new crane is especially suitable for timber loading in terminals, for industrial applications and for chipper or crusher feeding.

When talking about lifting capacity, the KESLA 2117 is clearly stronger than the most popular timber cranes in the KESLA range, the KESLA 2110 and 2112. Therefore, it is very suitable for loading timber in timber terminals.

- The companies transporting timber have fully rethought their logistics chains. Today, timber is often transported from forest to a timber terminal. There, timber is unloaded from truck and loaded again onto another truck, that transports timber further to the factories. The load capacity of this truck can be fully exploited for timber, as no crane is needed. This new way of logistics is, of course, an economical solution but also changes the roles of the trucks and cranes in the chain, states Marko Härkönen, responsible for the truck crane business at Kesla.

In this new logistics chain, there are not only trucks with cranes but also trucks specialized in transportation or in loading. When we think about traditional timber trucks, the crane has had to be a compromise – not to take space or kg:s from the timber. When a crane is used only in a terminal, no compromises are needed, as the space or the weight of the crane is no longer needed for the transportation. The new KESLA 2117 crane meets exactly these needs, offering great outreach, superb lifting capacity and loading speed.

Also for industrial applications, metal recycling and biomass feeding

The new model is extremely suitable for stationary industrial applications. Additionally, it suits for metal waste handling or biomass feeding. The crane has enough lifting capacity to feed energy wood even to the most massive chippers. Also the separate stabilizers ease up the installation on a chipper.

Besides the lifting capacity, the KESLA 2117 is very similar compared with smaller models of the KESLA 21 series.

The KESLA 2117 is available with four different outreaches: with single extension outreaches 8,1 m and 8,6 m and with double extension 9,7 m and 10,2 m. The models with double extension, are available optionally also with hosing outside of the boom, as the inside-boom hosing is usually standard.

The KESLA cranes are not only designed but also produced in Finland, at Kesla’s factory in Joensuu. Durability of the boom is ensured by using the high density steel, Strenx, from Ruukki. The surface is finished with KESLA proTECT surface handling method in its state-of-art surface processing line. The proTECT surface processing consists of several different phases and ensures not only excellent painting results but also gives good protection against corrosion.

The 2117 crane is available with high-seat equipment or with cabin.

The production is ready for the orders of the new crane in Mid-June and the first deliveries are estimated to leave from the factory in September. The crane is shown at Elmia Wood exhibition 7.-10.6.2017.
