FinnMETKO press release: KESLA truck cranes - focus on new control systems

29.08.2018 Aktuelles

Kesla presents its range of cranes on FinnMETKO stands 60, 62 and 66. On the stands there are several types of cranes, there is a clear focus on the new control systems.

Kesla has already for some years ago launched its own KESLA proC electric control system. The system is used in both tractor loaders as well as in cranes.

- Electric control is clearly taking over the market due to its adjustability, lightness of use and preciseness, says Business Director Mr. Marko Härkönen from Kesla.

KESLA proC has already been on the market for a few years and it has gained a lot of positive feedback. At the moment, most of the KESLA cranes and loaders are being ordered with this system.

Electric control for top seat’s for sale during autumn 2018

Kesla presented two years ago at the FinnMETKO the electric control system for top seats. The main markets are expected to be in Central Europe. The control system has been tested and the sales will be starting in the autumn of this year.

- Electric control system is really wanted also when it comes to the top seats. The components of the system are moisture proof, during our testing we found them to be very reliable and good even in the most difficult of weather conditions, Mr. Härkönen says. – To start with, we are offering the system to our Z cranes from the range of the 2109Z up to the 2117Z model.

Cranes with top seats and electric control systems will be available for ordering from the end of this year. The deliveries shall take place in February to March.

Anticipated innovation: electric control with 4 levers and 2 pedals

The biggest innovation for the control system market is an electric control with 4 levers and 2 pedals. According to Mr. Härkönen, several crane operators that are used to mechanical controls have prejudices against mini joysticks of electric control systems. The new system makes it easier and quicker for those drivers to get familiarised with electric controls.

- Now the movements of the crane are controlled similar manner to the mechanical systems: pedals are used for inner boom and for extension and other movements with four levers, reveals Mr. Härkönen. He also mentions that  the joysticks of this new system are sturdier than the traditional mini joysticks. – When compared to mechanical, the control is light, precise and is adjustble according to each driver.

The control system is design protected and it will be available for the whole of the KESLA crane range during the forthcoming years. The first models available with the system will be the most popular straight-boomed models in 12, 15 and 17 tonne meters. The first orders will be taken in October and the delivers will take place during January to February next year.

KESLA proSTABILITY stability control

When the cranes are taken from forests to cities, the demand for a stability control system arises. Kesla’s proSTABILITY is a combined control and stability system. Due to the stability control the crane can be steered by radio control or by joysticks in a top seat.

- The cranes with stability control were originally planned for the requirements of the French market. Now sales have also started in Finland with the range name ”City cranes”, says Mr. Härkönen. – Typical uses for this sort of crane are in recycling, material handling and on building sites.

On the Kesla’s stands there are cranes for testing: The new KESLA 2112T with 4 levers and 2 pedals and the new KESLA ZT17 CITY now equipped with proSTABILITY and radio control. Additionally on display is the sturdy 2024 terminal timber crane as well as the straight-boomed 2117T, which was launched only last year and of course; the cabins.
